4 Types of bone tissue:

Osteoblasts- bone building cells, create collagen to build the matrix. No cell division.

Osteocyte- the main cell in bone tissue. Mature bone cell, maintains metabolism. No cell division.

Osteoprogenitor- “ bone stem cells” creates new cells, under goes cell division. Found in the periosteum.

Osteoclasts- breaks down old bone tissue by releasing chemicals. Connected to the endosteum.

Bone Remodeling Cycle

The remodeling cycle involes bone resoption by the osteoclasts. The osteclasts remove the old stressed or worn-out mineralized bone. This recreates a resorption pit.

The resorption process causes osteblasts to become attracted to the resorption pit. Osteoblasts rebuild new bone tissue by laying down an unmineralized matrix, called osteoid, which will eventually form new mineralized bone.
